Disgaea 3 Announced for the PS3

Boasting massive 3d landscapes and intricately detailed characters, Disgaea 3 comes screaming onto the PS3. Requiring the full capacity of the Blu-ray disk and testing the limits of the Cell processor, Disgaea 3 is the type of gaming experience that just couldn’t be done on any other console than the PS3. Check out the screens if you think that I am lying. Fans of the series should look forward to it coming out in 2008. On a serious note, it is nice to see the PS3 receiving some niche titles in addition to its slew of blockbusters, but one has to question the logic of putting a niche title exclusively on a system with the lowest user base.

Yeah, I don’t mind this coming out. I’d expect that the shots in here at early. Now the game will have proper widescreen and more action on the screen at once. I’m sure they could make this game for the Wii, but if they do that… why not just make it for the PS2. Has Nippon Ichi even released anything on a non-Sony console?
I’ve also been seeing a bunch of… why not just make this on the PS2, since it has such a big user based. You have to realize that there are a lot of hardcore Sony fans out there who play Disgaea, and by the time this game comes out, I’m sure the PS3 will be a bit more mainstream. I’m thinking we’ll see this game Summer 2008.
But are there enough hardcore Sony fans who will justify 500 dollars for what looks like a PS2 game? I know other games, but I think it will be those other games and not this that justify it for those fans.
If the game is going to look like a PS2 game - and it does, hands down - then make it for the PS2. I’m willing to wager only ten percent of PS2 owners will have PS3s even by the time this game comes out. I mean, EVERYONE owns a PS2. Well, not everyone, but easily 99% of Disgaea’s target audience does. Sure, a few stuck-up people probably wouldn’t buy it because it would be for “last generation hardware”, but how many people will buy it for the PS3? The people I see buying PS3s care about graphics, not 80 hour tactical RPGs.
At least personally, Disgaea 3 won’t be seeing my money. And I’m someone who has purchased every single NIS developed, US published title as of yet.
And in answer to your question, Gosha, as fas as I know, NIS has only developed for Sony and Cell phones, however they are bringing a Disgaea title to the DS.
