Castlevania on the PSP

Looks like the next title in the long running Castlevania series is making it’s way to the PSP. Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles is not entirely new. The main game is a 3D graphical remake of Dracula X: Rondo of Blood. In addition, the game will contain the original PC Duo game as well as the sequel, Symphony of the Night. This looks to be a great collection for Castlevania and PSP fans, especially since the only version of Dracula X to hit stateside was a gutted port on the SNES.

For the record, the SNES Dracula X was not a remake, but an entirely new game that reused some sprites and had remixed song from the PC Engine version. And the only reason people didn’t like it was because you had much less control than in Super Castlevania 4, but many hardcore Castlevania fans will tell you that Dracula X is actually superior to CV4 because the limited control upped the difficulty and required you to use more strategy with your jumps. In fact Rondo of Blood controls just like Dracula X so all those people who hail Rondo but boo Dracula X are hypocrites.
Yes, I’m aware just how pathetically nerdy that sounds. I noticed it as I was typing and went with it. At any rate, this is great news since Magic Box (the PC engine emulator) doesn’t work well on XP. I wonder if I’ll be able to tolerate the PSP’s D-pad?
